A Good Start

I'm really trying to be more healthy. I've started keeping closer watch on what I eat, mimicking my mom's diet (on which she's become quite svelte). As mentioned before, I've given up Dr. Pepper. Okay, let's be honest...I haven't given it up altogether. But I've cut back to almost none. It's much easier now than in the beginning. And I'm trying to build my tolerance of artificially sweetened drinks.

I've also been riding my bike at least a few times a week (some weeks more successfully than others, of course). I've found it difficult to find time to ride after-work-but-before-dark, so this morning I tried out a new morning routine. There is a lovely shaded, bench-y seating area on the other end of the neighborhood (about two miles each way - I'm starting small). So I rode there, sat and read and enjoyed the smell of morning and the cool air for awhile, then rode back. It was such a lovely start to the morning. I felt very calm and refreshed as I got ready for work. It'll just take so much discipline to get up an hour earlier.

Also, my new community group through the church is off to a good start. My new friend, Amber, has been trying to get things off the ground for a few weeks, and I think last night things finally took off. It seems to be a wonderful group of girls my age, and I think there is potential for very fulfilling friendships within the group.

I feel centered and balanced and more healthy already. I want to keep this feeling!
